Hailstone
Aboard LPG tanker 'Cranefly Gaz'
Midday

Never before have Hailstone ever been surrounded by this much water. It was surprising how in seven years they've spent on Earth, they've never boarded a ship - up until this voyage. Hailstone felt reluctant about sea, ocean. It felt as if these bodies of water held much more secrets than mere lakes and rivers, which uncovered only the basic knowledge to Hailstone, just the tip of the enormous iceberg that is Earth's story. Secluded waters of the land didn't tell Hailstone much, and could only speculate about what lies in the deep oceans. Yet time has come, and Hailstone have prepared for the voyage of their life. They were afraid, curious, excited, happy, worried - everything imaginable.

Despite Hailstone's positive reputation and standing amongst humans, many sailors hesitated to accept the elemental aboard. They were afraid of something happening to their crew or cargo, or just didn't accept the conditions proposed by Hailstone's "caretakers" from Helsinki. LPG 'Cranefly Gaz', however, was different, and gladly accepted Earth's favourite elemental aboard. It was a trade vessel operating mostly along Nigerian coast. The crew varied - there were sailors, technicians and also guards from a private security company hired to protect the ship.

Hailstone have seen people with weapons before - the governmental agents, the military, but never quite understood the purpose of a weapon in the hands of a human. Warfare was something Hailstone never learned about - they were, as surprising as this may seem - constantly studying, or busy with rescue work. Being a part of the media, Hailstone themselves have never stopped to enjoy any media - a movie, or a book, or even a news report. They assumed that the guards are there to protect the sailors from the dangers of the sea, yet little did they know that such dangers quite often have human faces.

The guards liked the curious elemental, and they liked the guards back. The crew was delighted to have Hailstone aboard - after all, a hero-rescuer at your side during a voyage isn't something you should refuse?
Hailstone stood on the edge of the deck, peering into the thick, messy waves of the water around the ship. Smashing against the vessel, mixing together. Hailstone felt uneasy - looking at this water was like witnessing an enormous ancient library. You never know if even touching those books won't ruin them.

Yet quite soon, some commotion was heard all across the ship. The guards were alert and gathered somewhere on the upper decks, as the crew fled to the "citadel" within the ship. Something was coming...
